The New Mexico state government suspended a rural school board after it voted to reject Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s mask mandate.
Earlier this week, the New Mexico state Public Education Department suspended the Floyd school board after it rejected Democrat Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s mask mandate.
Gov. Grisham’s administration had previously threatened to fire every school board member if they refused to comply with the state’s mandates. The school board still voted 5-0 to reject the governor’s mandates.
The Albuquerque Journal reported that the school district’s superintendent is now ordered to report directly to the outgoing state education secretary.
However, the chair of the Republican Party in New Mexico, Steve Pearce, responded to the suspension by defending the school board. “The Republican Party stands shoulder to shoulder with the Floyd School Board and all other boards that refuse to accept these statewide orders from Santa Fe,” Pearce said.

The state government’s decision to suspend the Floyd school board sets a dangerous precedent, especially after the board fought for the freedom of its students and community at large. We must continue fighting against the politicization of COVID by Democrats, or our kids will suffer from unnecessary mask and vaccine mandates at the hands of leftist leaders.
