The student government at the University of Wisconsin-Madison approved a resolution to remove a statue of Abraham Lincoln.  The rationale behind the resolution is that it is a “racist remnant” of “white supremacy.” 

The resolution will be passed along to the administration at the University and it calls for an immediate removal.  The student that authored the resolution claimed that the donor, newspaper owner Richard Lloyd Jones, represents hate and discrimination in his personal beliefs.  They cite that the statue is a testament to the school’s history with white supremacy.  

Abraham Lincoln is one of the most influential leaders that the United States has ever seen, and a statue in his honor helps reinforce his values.  Colleges and Universities across the country have become a breeding ground for extremely liberal actions and beliefs.  They are looking to tear down the history of the country because of the person who paid for the statue.  

The school’s government and newspaper have made efforts for other left-wing causes including a push to defund police departments.   It is clear that these students are looking to lash out and create their own “social justice missions” in order to make headlines.  It is time to stand against the push to destroy history and fight for the values that have created the United States.
