Second Lady of the United States, Karen Pence, has a new endeavor this year! She announced this week she’ll be back to work at Immanuel Christian School as an art teacher. What could the media possibly have an issue with this time?It seems the left can’t handle Christian education in America.

Instead of celebrating the Second Lady’s decision to give back to the community, teach children, or live out her religious faith, the media quickly fired back that Pence was contributing to the discrimination of LGBT and transgender individuals — despite those activities sharply contrasting her religious beliefs.

Immanuel Christian School requires its faculty and students to adhere to Christian theology and values. Applicants must prove they follow the church’s traditional teachings on the roles between a man and a woman, and the purpose of sexuality.  This includes the denial of sexual immorality, homosexual activity or bi-sexual activity. As a private, religious school, they have every right to set these expectations. The traditional, faith filled lessons taught at Immanuel mirror many other Christian schools’ curriculums.

A representative for the Human Rights Campaign told the Huffington Post, “Why not teach at a school that welcomes everyone, instead of choosing one that won’t serve LGBTQ kids, kids of LGBTQ parents? The Pences never seem to miss an opportunity to show their public service only extends to some.”

A spokesperson for the Second Lady commented, “It’s absurd that her decision to teach art to children at a Christian school, and the school’s religious beliefs, are under attack.”

The media has no place to attack the Pences on their religious and educational values. Further, it is unacceptable that the left slams Mrs. Pence’s decision to extend her religious values to others in an educational setting.

Vice President Pence also responded to the criticism over his wife’s choice to teach at Immanuel stating, “To see major news organizations attacking Christian education is deeply offensive to us.”

While the left seems to always feel “discriminated against”, this breaking-news story is actually about discrimination against Christians. Conservatives cherish the opportunity to educate our children in a moral environment that recognizes Biblical teaching. It’s a cornerstone in America that we have not only freedom of religion, but freedom of speech. What the left has here is a problem with Christian environments — some of the only educational spaces left in America that adhere to religious values. The idea that they will slam and attack these religious institutions shows they take no issue in eliminating Christian doctrine across America.

We need to end this dangerous pattern of attacks against Christians. Help us protect the future of religious education in America!
