On Friday, Missouri Governor Mike Parson signed into law a bill that bans abortion past eight weeks. The Pro-life victory in Missouri added to the ever growing momentum across the nation for bills cracking down on abortion.

In his statement regarding the bill, Governor Parson said,

“By signing this bill today, we are sending a strong signal to the nation that, in Missouri, we stand for life, protect women’s health, and advocate for the unborn.”

Also included in the legislation was a provision in which abortion would be banned in the state completely if Roe v. Wade is overturned. Supporters of the pro-life movement hope that bills like the one passed in Missouri and Alabama will bring the Supreme Court to again review the precedent of Roe v. Wade in hopes of overturning the ruling. With a conservative majority on the bench, there is hope that Roe v. Wade might actually have a chance of being overturned.

California Governor Gavin Newsom and Democratic presidential candidate Cory Booker were some of the first critics to react Friday to the news. Newsom said on twitter that the Missouri legislation was about “power” and “control.” The ones gaining power and a voice are the ones who can’t speak for themselves: the unborn.

Overturning Roe v. Wade can only be accomplished by keeping the conservative majority on the Supreme Court. President Trump appointed two strong conservatives to the court so far during his term- Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh- solidifying the conservative majority. But the winner of the presidential election of 2020 could make or break the majority depending on if any of the justices retire.

We must make sure President Trump stays in office and wins in 2020 for the Pro-life movement to accomplish the goal of overturning Roe v. Wade. Sign up for Americans United for Values today to stand for life!
