eric holder speaking with microphone; pack the Supreme Court

Eric Holder is using the claim that Republicans “abused their power” as an excuse to pack the Supreme Court with liberal judges.

Former Attorney General Eric Holder recently claimed that Republicans “abused their power” to gain an “unfair advantage” in the Supreme Court, urging Democrats to use their new Senate majority to pack the court.

“The Republicans have abused their power to give themselves an unfair advantage,” Holder said. “It is necessary and totally appropriate to add seats.” He also claimed: “It is painfully clear Democrats and progressives are uncomfortable with the acquisition and use of power, while Republicans and conservatives never have been. Our courts badly need reforms.”

During a 2019 discussion at Yale Law National Security Group, Holder said that the next Democrat president should pack the court. Apparently, his wishes are coming true, as Politico recently reported that “the Biden administration is moving forward with the creation of a bipartisan commission to study reforms to the Supreme Court and the federal judiciary.”

Despite Democrats’ efforts, a recent Rasmussen poll revealed that Americans would rather see term limits on the Supreme Court before they see court-packing. Even the late liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg denounced the idea of court-packing.

“Nine seems to be a good number,” Justice Ginsburg had said. “It’s been that way for a long time. I think it was a bad idea when President Franklin Roosevelt tried to pack the Court.”

President Trump and other Republicans’ effort to appoint and confirm federal judges over the past four years was done lawfully. Eric Holder’s ridiculous claim of them “abusing their power” is wrong, and it is simply an excuse for Democrats to pack the court and take as much power as they can get their hands on.

We must always support and elect leaders who will follow the law and appoint judges who are focused on upholding the Constitution, rather than pushing a progressive agenda. Otherwise, Democrats will continue fighting to make strong leaders like Amy Coney Barrett few and far between.
