The Democrats’ draft budget is an attempt to force taxpayer funding of abortion by removing Hyde Amendment-related policies.
The House Appropriations Committee released a draft budget that expands taxpayer funding of abortion.
The Susan B. Anthony List, a pro-life group, warned that the spending bill removes two pro-life policies from the “Hyde-family of amendments”: the Dornan Amendment, which blocked taxpayer funding of abortion in Washington, DC, and the Smith Amendment, which blocked taxpayer funding of abortions in the Federal Employee Health Benefits program.
The Hyde Amendment was first passed in 1976, and it prevents the use of federal funds for abortions. President Biden has promised to repeal the Hyde Amendment. And meanwhile, Democrat leaders have been pushing to remove the amendment from legislation.

“Thanks to the Hyde Amendment, nearly 2.5 million people are living among us today,” Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser said in a statement, “but if the Dornan and Smith Amendments are scrapped, taxpayers would be forced to pay for as many as 1,500 more abortions each year in D.C. alone.”
“Catholic” President Biden and the Democrats are trying hard to force American taxpayers into funding abortion nationwide. Their attacks on the Hyde Amendment are also attacks on the First Amendment and religious freedom. We cannot allow them to make the murderous practice of abortion the financial responsibility of pro-life Americans.
