Joe Biden standing at a podium; federal funding abortions

Biden is now opposing an amendment that blocks federal funding for abortions along with his massive budget request.

President Biden included an opposition to the Hyde Amendment, which prevents federal funding from supporting abortions, as part of his $6 trillion budget request.

Prior to the Hyde Amendment being adopted in 1980, an estimated 300,000 abortions were performed every year using taxpayer funds, NPR reported.

Biden had voted for the original version of the Hyde Amendment in 1976 and also voted to save it in 1993. But then in 2019, Biden came out in support of ending the Hyde Amendment.

“There’s no rationale that can be offered that if you’re covered by the federal system, you cannot then use federal funding to seek reproductive health care,” Biden said during his campaign. He also told primary voters that he “could no longer continue to abide by the Hyde Amendment.”

Biden also stated that he’d work to “enshrine into federal law the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision upholding abortion rights.”

Democrats and progressives have been pushing for federal- and taxpayer-funded abortion for years. The Hyde Amendment had helped make sure that didn’t happen, but now our “moderate” Democrat president is threatening to take that away.

We must continue to support religious freedom and resist the efforts to take away that freedom. Otherwise, Americans will be forced into funding the murderous practice of abortion.
