Beto O’Rourke has tried to differentiate his presidential campaign from others by focusing on one single issue: gun control. During a September Democratic presidential debate, Beto said, “Hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15 and AK-47.” This past Wednesday he made a campaign stop at Kent State University, where in 1970 four students were gunned down by the national guard.
At Kent State, Beto cited the 1970 massacre carried out by guardsmen employed by the national government as the reason why assault weapons need to be confiscated. O’Rourke has been a strong advocate of a mandatory buy-back for all assault weapons. And apparently, he wants to make sure only the government has assault weapons.
How oblivious is O’Rourke to not notice the irony of his own statements? If Kent State and history has shown us anything, it’s that the government can’t be trusted to be the only ones with guns. Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, and other infamous dictators in history all began their socialist government control with gun confiscation. Beto wants to take the country down that path.
When asked on the possibility of gun owners nationwide having no interest in following a mandatory buyback program, Beto has simply said that many of the gun owners he has talked to expressed interest in buyback if it was for the greater good. Clearly, O’Rourke is not talking to the average law-abiding American gun owner.
O’Rourke has also claimed that a mandatory buyback is necessary and even if not everyone agrees with him, it must be carried out now. Beto says that there is bipartisan interest in taking swift gun control action. It’s Beto’s way or the highway, which for him means confiscation.
Luckily, Beto O’Rourke is gaining zero traction in the Democratic presidential primary. He’s polling in seventh place, and despite the abundance of media attention he’s gotten over the past few months, it isn’t translating into support. Beto O’Rourke is turning out to be a repetitive failure, losing his Senate race last year too to Ted Cruz.
Americans United for Values stands for the rights of all gun owners, and completely rejects Beto’s calls for gun confiscation. The second amendment is under attack, and politicians like Beto O’Rourke want to strip you of your constitutionally given right.
