As the Atlanta crime rate soars, Mayor Bottoms wants to blame Republican leaders who lifted COVID restrictions.
Atlanta Democratic Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms claims that Republicans who voted to lift Georgia’s COVID restrictions are partly to blame for the exploding crime rate in her city.
Bottoms told MSNBC that Governor Brian Kemp’s decision in April to loosen Georgia’s lockdown restrictions was a major cause of the rise in crime.
“Remember in Georgia we were opened up before the rest of the country, even before the CDC said that it was safe for us to open so our night clubs and our bars remained open so we had people traveling here from across the country to party in our city,” Bottoms said.
Atlanta has seen a 50% jump in murders compared to pre-COVID stats. Homicides had also increased from 99 in 2019 to 157 in 2020.
Democrats think it’s racist to NOT allow this.

Democrats like Mayor Bottoms always seem to have something to blame for crime, rather than their own failure to lead. As Governor Kemp said in response to the mayor, “the left’s anti-police, soft-on-crime agenda is to blame.”
“According to the mayor, rising crime in our capital city is everyone’s fault but hers,” the governor said. “Getting Georgians back to work, back to school, and back to normal didn’t lead to more crime. The left’s anti-police, soft-on-crime agenda is to blame.”
Democrat-led cities are notorious for having problems with high crime rates. And now that “defund the police” efforts have taken hold and the left has successfully demonized police officers, it’s only getting worse. Democrats are failing to control crime and keep their cities safe from the problems they created. Yet, they still want to blame Republicans.
